(37) THE $1.98 BEAUTY SHOW 1978
Chuck Barris (of "Gong Show" fame) produced this mockery of the American beauty pageant with a format of six contestants to vie for the crown. Host Rip Taylor introduced a variety of contestant-types -- some sexy, some gross. There was a talent competition, with plenty of off-key singers and off-beat acts and a swimsuit competition, which, curiously, always seemed to favor the fat contestants. The winner received $1.98 and a tacky crown. Frequent celebrity panelists included Jaye P. Morgan, Jamie Farr, Louis Nye, Marty Allen, and The Unknown Comic (Murray Langston).
Broadcast History: September 1978 to September 1980, Once-a-week-syndication Host: Rip Taylor, Announcer: Johnny Jacobs, Executive Producer: Chuck Barris, Producer: Gene Banks Director: John "The Fox" Dorsey, Musical Director: Milton Delugg, Packager: Chuck Barris Productions Distributor: Sandy Frank Productions, Studio: NBC Studios, Burbank, California; The Chuck Barris Stages, Hollywood, California
Main Game: Six contestants (Women most of the time) compete in a spoofed beauty show where they are judged on their talents and in the swimsuit competition. The talent portion could produce just about anything. So did the swimsuit competition. In the end, Rip Taylor opens up the envelope and announces the winner. That winner gets the grand prize: $1.98 (One dollar and ninety-eight cents). Oh, and at the end of it all, Rip Taylor sings his song for the winner.

(44) STARDUST 1975
David Essex, Adam Faith
"STARDUST" IS A FILM DEVOTED TO SHOWING ALL OF THE MANY FACES OF 1960's POP. ( EVEN THE MOST UNACCEPTABLE ONES ) STARS - DAVID ESSEX, ADDAM FAITH, LARRY HAGMAN, KEITH MOON ( DRUMMER THE WHO ), DAVE EDMONDS AND A LOT MORE. ONE OF THE BEST ROCK N' ROLL MOVIES EVER MADE. STARDUST IS THE SEQUEL TO THE MOVIE THAT'LL BE THE DAY. ( ADAM FAITH PLAY'S MIKE AS RINGO DID IN THE FIRST MOVIE ) SUCCESS LIKE THE BEATLES, WITH THE STRAY CAT'S ( JIM'S BAND ) TO DRUG'S, ARGUMENTS IN THE BAND, OVERSEEN BY A SLY, MANIPULATIVE MANAGER ( MIKE ). RAGS-TO-RICHES STORY TO THE BITTER END.
David Essex reprises his role as Jim Maclaine, in this sequel to THAT’LL BE THE DAY. This film documents the rise and fall of the fictional 1960’s rock band, The Stray Cats (no relation to the early-1980’s band). In very Beatle-like fashion, the band rises to worldwide fame. Maclaine is regarded as the leader, and eventually gets a big ego. This alienates the rest of the band, who then kick him out. Maclaine then goes solo and even performs his own rock opera. This rare film is really cool and very entertaining. It also has a few nude scenes, and several good musical numbers. Real life rockers Dave Edmunds and Keith Moon also play band members. Larry Hagman co-stars as one of the band’s promoters.
